The temperature today is 30 degrees cooler yesterday, so I figured it would be a good night to camp. We decided to push through to the mountains of Santa Fe. The national parks were all booked, but Santa Fe National Forest had some campgrounds that are first-come-first-served. We decided to go for it. Thanks to my iphone, I had directions from the park website (we have no GPS in our little car). Despite my fantastic co-pilot we somehow took a REALLY wrong turn and ended up literally off-roading in the national forest. I'm pretty sure we saw a "Closed - high fire danger" sign as we entered. Really - huge gulleys, giant ruts and lots and lots of red dust. I finally decided to turn around, use the "facilities" and enjoy the smell of sage brush. As soon as I had reception again we made a hotel reservation.
A mom, 2 kids and a dog, driving in a Chevy Cruze from Maryland to Las Vegas. What could go wrong?

Leg 5: Amarillo, Texas to Roswell, NM to Santa Fe, New Mexico
I'm insane. The kids have been fantastic. They both got rewards for handling today so well. For those of you who don't know, Roswell is NO WHERE NEAR Santa Fe. Roswell sounds much cooler than it really is, too. I don't recommend going out of your way for it. On the bright side, we were given an alien toy for Baby.
