Taking the Pulse

Things are going OK. We've been able to do a lot of fun things and I've only had to pull over 3 times. We've managed to get back on track each time. I was quite worried at The City Museum when Evelyn and I went in and Ian had to wait outside, but it turned out OK. Evelyn has earned one of her chosen "flexibility" prizes (Abercrombie sweatshirt) and Ian is still working towards a prize.  Evelyn plays the sibling rivalry game much more easily (sometimes too much so); Ian takes it SO seriously and ends up in trouble.  (Yes, Ashley, it's that time, but I'm aware and we're hanging in there.)

Today we worked on arguing. We worked on disagreeing about things without disliking each other. We tried not to act as "know it alls" and to understand that we don't know everything about everything and it is OK to be wrong.  Just because we disagree does not mean that we think less of each other. We spent much of our practice arguing about whether or not the waiter was grumpy and whether or not his attitude will affect the business.  We also argued about whether the construction workers from Restaurant Impossible are faster workers than Richard (our handyman). I'm not brave enough to argue about cars yet.

We've been to the pool twice. We watched The Tower Heist. We've had lots of junk food, but we've also walked a lot. The Drury Inn has a nice hot and free breakfast and dinner (including 3 free adult beverages.) Having the dog here has been fine. He does NOT like the horse-drawn carriages on the street, or the sprinklers on the park in front of the Arch, or the fountain in the lobby, or the statue of Lewis & Clark's dog, or the steam grate in the sidewalk. He's gotten quite good at revolving doors and elevators though.

Tomorrow we head for Erie, Kansas, to my aunt and uncle's farm. On the way we'll stop at the Jesse James Wax Museum and Meramac Caverns. They have a kennel there for Baby while we explore. My dad's mother always said we were related to Jesse James.  Ian likes to use it as an excuse when he misbehaves. Maybe they'll have a family tree there.

  1. You should publish a travel guide after this! Also see a Drury Inn commercial in the making. Seems they know how to take care of the entire family, including 3 adult beverages. Love the opportunity to learn how to disagree. Very brave within the confines of a small car. xoxo
